So when I left off on Friday evening with my post, I mentioned the awesome game of poker that was to commence Saturday evening... So I figured I'd spend this blog talking about the tournament. For those of you unlucky souls who don't know, it is a BIG deal to play poker at Joe's house. We like to call it the Lovelace Basement Poker Club. And it is a BIG deal to win this game as well. You see, back this last year, Brad made a championship poker belt for the winner to sign and wear around for the night... So obviously you want to get your name on the belt and to have your picture taken with the belt on! Duh! My name is on the belt, but unfortunately, only once! Oh well... The events of the night are always fun no matter who the winner is, but it definitely feels better when you get to walk away knowing you wrote your name on the belt that night.
Saturday's game/tournament consisted of 16 players, three tables in all. To start the night off, we drew a number... either 1, 2, or 3. That told you which table you were playing at. 2 of the tables had 5 people at them, and 1 had 6. It was a $5 buy in to play and you had about an hour or so to buy back in one time, should you lose all of your chips. However, you only were given 75% of your chips when you bought back in. Every 30 minutes we raised the blinds so that the game would only last 5 hours vs. like 8 or so!
We started the game around 7:30 and it lasted until about 12:30 or so... but the party went on for hours after that! There was sooo much party food, you didn't know what to do with yourself. I brought cookies, bean dip, and taco dip... One person brought oreo cheesecake minis (home made!), others brought multiple dips, chips, cheeses, peanuts, etc. So, of course, we had to take a 15 minute break to grab some munchies (and cigs for those smokers who were playing). I wish I had taken a few pics of all of the food, but I didn't even think about it until I had left. But fear not, I have quite a few fun little pics from the night's events to show here in a bit.
Once there got to be only 7 or so players, we moved down to one main table... Alex and Annie were one of the 7 last players... unfortunately for me, I was not. This Rachel girl (a friend of Joe's sister who was in town) was at my table initially and when she bought back in, boy did she start raking in all of our chips! At one point I was the chip leader at our table, and the next I was done-zo. Oh well, I was glad that at least Annie and Alex made it to the "final round". The final two players were Annie and Rachel... and it got to the point where they were literally just going back and forth with winning... at that point it would've taken all night to finish, so finally Annie agreed to just "split the pot" and call it a tie... So, fortunately for them, we allowed them both to sign the belt. They each came away with about $60 (after having given 2nd and 3rd place their money back...)
Here are some fun pics from the night...

As you can clearly see, the evening was not only eventful, but fun, and filled with awesome people and good times. I am definitely looking forward to another round of Hold'em at the Lovelace's house!
I spent yesterday having breakfast with my family and Alex and then heading to Louisville... I worked on super lame homework, and went to bed super early since I am still not feeling great. Damn winter colds/flu/sinus infections... whatever it is that I might be coming down with! Ew! I'm still not up to par today, but am feeling better than yesterday that is for sure.
I better stop blogging so that I can get to listening to more lectures on nanotechnology and writing my essay on them... yuck. I am SO over school!
